East District Age Group Championships – First Round

The first round of these championships were held at Glenrothes last weekend and Midlothian swimmers made a fantastic start.

Lisa Fraser became District Champion in the 14/15 years 200m Backstroke where she led from the start and eased to first place in the final.

In the corresponding Boys event, Robbie Dalgetty produced a very gutsy swim to claim the Bronze medal and the previous day, Beth Denholm won Silver in the 10/11 years 200m freestyle with a fantastic swim.

There were many more good performances over the weekend and a full report will be published later.

Club Records Updated

Club records have at last been brought up to date in a new format which should make it easy to keep them current and record changes during the year.  Go to the Club Records page for details.

August 2009 Update – Congratulations…

Club swimmers have had some amazing results over the summer – congratulations to all!

Scottish Swimming National Squad Program

Congratulations to the following swimmers, who have been selected for the bronze squad under this Program. Swimmers will attend 3 one day training camps run by one of Scotland’s top coaches. The days will comprise sessions in the pool, on land and also education in relation to meet preparation, diet etc.

Livingston District Dolphins Meet – May 2009

This meet was held at Prestonpans on 9^th/10^th May 2009 and a fairly large team comprising Gold, Silver and Bronze squad swimmers took part.

East District Open Championships 6th & 7th June

These championships were held on 6^th & 7^th June and were the last to be held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool before it closes for major refurbishment later this month.

Annual Midlothian Minnows

The 7th Annual Midlothian Minnows took place at the Mercat Gait Pool in Prestonpans on Saturday 16th May. Swimmers aged 8 to 12 took part from eight competing clubs. A lot of good times were put in despite it being the 1st competition for some of the younger swimmers. Midlothian did well, leading in the 1st half, but were overtaken in the second half by Hearts and Kelso. Kelso took the Minnows trophy back home with them beating Hearts by a mere 10 points and Midlothian by 13.

Scottish Age Group Championships – April 2009

These championships were at the Royal Commonwealth Pool during April this year. The standard is always very high however, this year it was raised a bit more as there were swimmers from 31 clubs from England participating.

Lothian Region Leagues – Round 2 – April 09 (Updated by Colin)

Update to report from Colin – Gold Squad

There were 10 Gold Squad swimmers involved in the second round of the Leagues and they did extremely well.
In the first event, the 200m freestyle, there were excellent personal best swims from Jenny Jubb who reduced her time by 13 seconds, David Graham smashed the time limit with a 6 seconds PB and Laura Gray with a 2 seconds PB finished in 2nd place.

Lothian Region Leagues – Round 1 – March 09

This is the 1^st round of the Leagues for 2009 and although we did not have full teams for all ages the swimmers swam extremely well with many P.B.’s on the day. There were 27 PB’s with 2 swims just outside the swimmers times, 5 swims the first competition over the distance,  and 1 swim too fast

The morning session kicked off with the younger swimmers 8/9yrs with Morgan Cockburn swimming her first 50m back, and Megan Bain just a margin outside her PB. Anna MacKay producing a 5 second PB on Breast, Bryony Eunson 11 seconds PB on Front crawl, Logan 1 second on Fly, Ian Doyle his first 50m Back, Andrew Denholm producing a 9 second PB on Breast and Leon Wadee 7½ seconds on Front Crawl.

Warrender Meet Report – March 09

This meet took place at Glenrothes over two days with the 9 & 10years swimming on the Saturday and the 11 & 12Years on the Sunday.

This was a great meet and a challenge to a lot of the swimmers as there were many clubs competing and not knowing what to expect. After having such a great success at the Lothian Region Leagues only the month before it was hard what to predict the results at this meet.

With the clocks changing on the Sunday and the early start there were a few bleary eyed swimmers over the two days however, they did not let us down. They were all in good spirits and a credit to the club.
